Welcome to the Beginners Guide! Here you'll learn all about stats, EXP, levels, unique skills, and missions, and much, much more! This is the how-to guide to everything SAO RP related.
What are stats?
Stats are what, along with levels, is used to control what type of bosses you can fight, and what type of missions you can complete. Stats are earned from leveling up, and sometimes given out through specific missions. The only stats in this RP are Strength and Agility stats. Your starting amount of stats is determined via random.org, and can be anywhere between 1 and 10. Once your stats are rolled, you have the option of asking an admin to move up to three stats around, to customize your character even more. This movement of stats can only happen at the very beginning. After you have earned EXP and stats in the RP you are unable to move stats around.
Example: You wanted to base your character around Strength, but you rolled a 3 in Strength and a 7 in Agility. So you ask an admin to move 3 of your Agility stats over to your Strength stats, leaving you with 6 in Strength and 4 in Agility.
What is EXP?
EXP is what you use to level up. Every RP post that is over 200 words per character in the post, and not completely filler, earns 250EXP! Every 1000 EXP gains you another level! EXP can also be earned through missions. The amount of EXP earned varies per mission so make sure to check the *current missions* thread to see.
Example: You post 5 replies to the RP with 3 of them having two characters. 2 of them are single character posts with more then 200 words, and 2 of them are double character posts with more then 400 words. The first two would earn you a total of 500EXP, and the second posts would earn you a total of 500EXP per character.
What are levels?
Levels are used to gain stats, along with unlock your unique skill! Levels are gained by earning 1000EXP through regular posting and participating in missions! Every time you level up, you earn 4 stats to distribute between your agility and strength stats however you want. Levels also control, in tandem with stats, control what bosses you can defeat and what missions you can go on.
Your starting level is determined with a formula. After your Agility and Strength stats are rolled, that are plugged into the formula ((a)+(s)+10) ÷ 2.
Example: You roll a 3 in Agility and a 7 in Strength. Plugging those in, you get ((3)+(7)+10)÷2 = (20)÷2 = 10. Giving you a starting level of 10.
What are missions?
Missions are twice a month events that earn the participant EXP and sometimes even stats! They start on the first Friday of the month, and run for a little more than three and a half weeks, ending the last Friday of the month. That gives us admins time to look through all the entries and assign Exp, Levels, and Stats for the participants before the new missions start!
Missions are level-specific. There are different missions for characters level 6-29, 30-60, and 61-100. Along with these regular missions, there will be special skill missions. These missions are used to level up your special skills, ei cooking, fishing, black smith, and more!
Visit the *Current Missions* thread to see what missions are currently running!
What are special skills?
Special skills are skills that can't be leveled up through normal rping. They are things like cooking, fishing, and blacksmith. They are leveled up through skill-specific missions hosted twice-monthly. Every time you complete a skill-specific mission, you gain one level for that skill. Once you reach level 10 that skill is maxed out!
Example: You want your character to have a high cooking skill. So you participate in 10 cooking skill-specific missions, maxing out your characters cooking. This lets you cook anything in the RP that you want, including S rank ingredients!
What are unique skills?
Unique skills are character specific. Meaning, with a couple variations, they are a skill that only your character has. But the hitch is, while that skill is unique to them, it is not immediately usable. In order to use that skill, they must reach level 75, and thus unlocking the skill.
Example: Character A starts out at level 15. Their unique skill is Duel Blade. They work very hard, upping their level until they reach level 75. As soon as that is reached, they unlock Duel Blade, and can use it from then on in the RP.
Player skills are skills that every player can use, are specific one type of weapon, and unlock at their set level. These are not player specific skills like the Unique skills. These can be used by any character that has the correct weapon type and level.
Example: Player A has a character with a sword. There is a player skill for that sword that unlocks at level 43. So this character has to be leveled up to or above level 43. Once they hit level 43, that skill is unlocked for their weapon, and they can use it how they please.
